My love for Great Danes began as a small child. My mom and I had moved into a new neighborhood and I had just met some new kids who lived on the block. As I was walking home after dark that evening, this GIANT thing came running after me in the dark!!!! COOKIE, the GREAT DANE!
Well, after that scary night, Cookie, and I became great friends and the rest is history. As soon as I graduated high school, I received my first Dane, Solo's Saxaphone Lady. Purchased from a puppy mill in 1974, I wanted to take her home and protect her.
I received my first harlequin as a handling fee from a dear friend in 1982. Antiquity was my constant companion and the love of my life. Since that time, I have had many Great Danes and many great harlequins and an occasional 'off -colored' dane, you know, fawns, brindles, blacks, mantles(Boston's as I still refer to them) and merles.
Laura Kiaulenas, BMW Kennels, was my beloved friend and mentor after I flew to her home in 1982 to view her dogs. Again, they were so different that the ones I had seen, so impressive. I kept wondering how she made them stand so beautifully. That weekend changed my life and view of the Great Dane. I did my best to strive for the excellence that Laura instilled in me. While I have quit breeding for the most part, due to the fact it is getting harder and harder to find dedicated Great Dane people, I continue to handle and occasionally research pedigrees and dogs for breeding consultations.
I have had the pleasure to handle some of the most gorgeous Great Danes and finished many Champions for clients and well as home-bred Harlequins.
I continue to handle, normally going to 40 or more shows a year. If you are interested in showing or need expert handling for your Great Dane, please consider dropping me an email.
